WORLD ENVIROMENTAL DAY

World Environment Day is the United Nations flagship environmental event, celebrated each year on 5 June. The United Nations General Assembly established the World Environment Day in 1972 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. The purpose of World Environment Day is to focus worldwide attention onto the importance of the environment and stimulate political attention and action.

Every year, the Kenya Organization for Environmental Education (KOEE) coordinates the World Environment Day events in Kenya in conjunction with UNEP – ROA.

The World Environment Day theme selected for 2007 is Melting Ice – A hot Topic? The main international celebrations of the World Environment Day 2006 will be held in Norway. UNEP is honoured that the City of TromsØ will be hosting this United Nations day.
