SUSTAINABLE
WATCH
Sustainability Watch is a network of
civil society organizations (CSOs) in Africa, Asia and
Latin America, working to promote governmental accountability
for sustainable development, through ongoing qualitative
monitoring and constructive dialogue at the national and
international levels.
Sustainability Watch focuses on the pursuit of the Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs) in the context of monitoring
the implementation of the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation.
By doing so, Sustainability Watch seeks to increase Southern
civil-society networks’ ability to engage more efficiently
in advocacy for pro-poor sustainable development
Sustainability watch Kenya is a network composed of CSO’s
engaged in varied thematic issues contributing towards
sustainable development; they are spread all over the
country with sub-national chapters based in all the eight
provinces. Its main goal is to monitor and evaluate the
implementation of the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation
on the national level by using indicators of MDG 1, 7
and 8 as analytical tools (including the linkages between
environment, poverty and governance/capacity).
Goal
Different sectors are mobilized to improve the quality
of life and to eradicate poverty in Kenya
Objectives
The network’s main objective is to widen the national
platform through participation of the existing networks
and in the establishment of new linkages/partnerships
among network/forum members in order to strengthen joint
decision making for effective implementation of MDGs,
NEPAD, WSSD outcomes, EMCA, PRSP, ERS in Kenya.
1) To create awareness on national, regional and international
instruments i.e. EMCA, PRSP’s, NEPAD, WSSD outcomes and
MDGs.
2) To strengthen and develop capacity of the network,
participating CSO’s and Local communities to advocate
for the attainment of MDGs and sustainable development.
3) To Lobby and advocate for inclusion, integration and
implementation of Sustainable Development principles in
our national policies, legislation and programmes
